Aaahhh! Breaks
Breaks Breaks Breaks! That’s all I’m hearing at the moment. I’m sick of it -they really aren’t such a big deal. Crews know they have to have them. We know we have to give them - suck it up! Although here are some of the funniest excuses we’ve been given for crews not having breaks or for interrupting them!
1. I can’t go out and get food - I’m not insured to drive the ambulance while on a break
2. I can’t take the ambulance because I’m not insured to carry morphine while on a break
3. The fire alarm is going off and it’s too noisy to have a break
4. We can hear moaning in the station and we need to spend the next 10 minutes finding out what it is
Oh and road staff - do you really think we can’t see you driving round and round the stn before booking on so you avoid your window!! Remember the mdt screens are like Big Brother - they see all!!

Have you thought that some of us prefer to be available to help people rather than have a break?

Before the 'Rest Breaks' came into force it was £7.50 (untaxed) because you ddn't get a break, now it's £10 taxed. Doesn't this wor out the same???

One of our crews, who work out of a certain ambulance station which is almost next door to a hospital, took nearly an hour to get back to station after greening up. Coincidentally, they arrived two minutes after their break window ended.
Our sector controller very nearly lost his temper at that point. The DSO got a phone call.
The sooner breaks are abolished, the better. No one actually seems to want them, least of all the crews!

That's weird! I work in a residential home, and staff take breaks as often as they can! Any opportunity and they will be sitting down with a cuppa... the opposite to you!
